Bluewater Wind Would Bring Hundreds of Jobs to Delaware
If we build them, hundreds of jobs will come:
Bluewater Wind's parent company has pledged to make Delaware the hub of its Mid-Atlantic offshore operations if the state approves a long-term wind power contract with Delmarva Power.Lt. Gov. John Carney requested the promise from Babcock and Brown, an Australia-based global energy and investment company that acquired Bluewater last year. Carney announced today the company had agreed to the pledge.
Bluewater is looking at ports, staging areas and training areas in Delaware, said Bluewater spokesman Jim Lanard. Such facilities would be used for Babcock-owned wind farms off the shores of other states, too, Lanard said. The facilities would also be used for the construction of the wind turbines.
Carney said putting the center in Delaware could mean hundreds more jobs during potential multi-year construction projects in Maryland and New Jersey. (Link)
This is a huge opportunity for Delaware. Wind Power is an inevitable large part of the world's energy future. This could develop into making Delaware the leader in the production of alternative energy technology.
If only the Senators Thurman Adams, Harris McDowell and Charlie Copeland Delmarva-Power-shill axis don't kill the deal.
