Pat Robertson is Hearing Voices Again
Kook, crackpot, crank and Republican Party heavyweight Rev. Pat Robertson, founder and master of the 700 club, is hearing voices again. Once more the voice claims to be the God of evangelical Christianity and, per usual, the voice is predicting Pat Robertson’s favorite themes: cataclysms, widespread death and destruction, Old Testament wrath of God kind of stuff:
Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a "mass killing" late in 2007.
"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network.
"The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."
Robertson said God told him about the impending tragedy during a recent prayer retreat. (link)
A nuclear bomb would work out nicely for Robertson since he once famously wished that one would be dropped on the US State Department. According to a previous comment by Robertson, the Good Lord could also have it in for the townsfolk of Dover, Pennsylvania who voted to have their public schools teach their children science in science classes instead of the theology of intelligent design. Anything savoring of friendliness toward homosexuals can also occasion an apocalypse:
Any consideration given to homosexuals can result in cataclysms according to Robertson. When Disney World decided to host a privately sponsored weekend event named “Gay Days,” Robertson warned the event could result in hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, terrorist bombs and "possibly a meteor." And let’s not forget that 9/11 wasn't Osama Bin Laden’s doing. It was God’s:
USA deserved the terrorist attack on 9/11 that murdered 3,000 people because it was God’s punishment on us [said Robertson] for "pagans, abortionists, feminists, gays, lesbians, the ACLU and the People for the American Way ." (link)
While like most evangelical Christians Robertson believes that God never makes mistakes, the voice that predicts cataclysms to him has a spotty record of accuracy:
The broadcaster predicted in January 2004 that President Bush would easily win re-election.
Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts .
In 2005, Robertson predicted that Bush would have victory after victory in his second term. He said Social Security reform proposals would be approved and Bush would nominate conservative judges to federal courts.
Lawmakers confirmed Bush's 2005 nominations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. But the president's Social Security initiative was stalled…..
In May, Robertson said God told him that storms and possibly a tsunami were to crash into America 's coastline in 2006.
Even though the U.S. was not hit with a tsunami, Robertson on Tuesday cited last spring's heavy rains and flooding in New England as partly fulfilling the prediction. (link)
But this prediction is God’s/Robertson’s most ambitious prognostication of catastrophe yet:
God also said, he claims, that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September. (link)
Although acknowledging that the Good Lord has flubbed some of his predictions in the past, Rev. Robertson is feeling upbeat about getting this prediction of massive death and destruction right:
"I have a relatively good track record," he said. "Sometimes I miss." (link)
