Delaware Watch Makes the Delaware Republican Party Convention
I received a credible report that Delaware Watch made the Delaware Republican Party Convention in Bethany Beach. According to my source, a sheet of paper was placed on the convention delegates chairs stating "as the College Republicans were busy helping to plan this week’s convention, Mike Protack was attacking Delaware College Republicans on an ultra liberal website. It's a shame one of our candidates chooses to take shots at the next generation of our party." I was also told that a member of the party’s leadership defended the distribution. But I am awaiting further confirmation before I publicize the leader’s name.
I’m flattered that some faction of the Republican Party would think highly enough of Delaware Watch to propagate a lie about its claims. Mike Protack did not attack the Delaware College Republicans. I happily and properly attacked Seth Wimer, the Chairperson of the Delaware Federation of College Republicans and an ex officio member of the Delaware Republican Party’s Executive Committee, for endorsing Jan Ting prior to the convention and for allowing the Jan Ting Campaign to pay for the letter of endorsement (as shockingly stated on the letter itself).
In fact, when I posted a facsimile letter of endorsement on Delaware Watch, Mike Protack argued, improperly in my view, that Wimer had done nothing wrong. I made that argument and I stick by it.
In my view, the falsehood propagated about Mr. Protack at the convention is symptomatic of the confusion, which probably pervades the party’s leadership, between constructive democratic debate and deliberate mendacious smears. The former practice historically characterizes democratic institutions while the latter characterizes elitist tyrannies.
Rank & file members of the Delaware Republican Party should take note of these dirty tricks. It’s further evidence that your party doesn’t belong to you. What will you do to get it back?
